Becoming a Marriage Celebrant
By becoming a Marriage Celebrant, you are sharing in one of the special and significant events in a person's life. It is a career which can be very rewarding and fulfilling and it can be completed around family and other work commitments.
All Marriage Celebrants need to complete a qualification which includes:
- the responsibilities of Marriage Celebrants to comply with the relevant legislation
- conducting their own business operations as a Marriage Celebrant
The program will cover learning in areas such as:
- The Marriage Act 1961
- Marriage Regulations and other relevant legislation
- The Code of Practice
- Importance of Relationship Education
- Conflict of interest
- Client contact
- Communication skills
- Administration
The minimum requirement for an application to become a Marriage Celebrant is the successful completion of the unit, "CHCMCEL401A - Plan, conduct and review a marriage ceremony" from the Certificate IV in Marriage Celebrancy. More information about these two courses follow the links below:
Please note that a successful completion of this unit does NOT guarantee authorisation as a Marriage Celebrant. You will still need to meet the Australian Government criteria as outlined on the Attorney General's website found at http://www.ag.gov.au/celebrants .
